RIDING PROTOCOL
B2VT RULES OF THE ROAD
The rules of the road exist to ensure the safety of all; we expect participants in the B2VT to follow the same rules. We are sharing the roads of New England with cars, pedestrians and your fellow cyclists. You are riding through other people’s hometowns and home states, please be respectful at ALL times. We will not tolerate scofflaws as it challenges the future of the B2VT and compromises your safety and the safety of others.
All roads are open to vehicular traffic, please ride accordingly. Obey all traffic laws and stop lights, stop signs, etc.
No three across pelotons - stay to double file or single file when roads are narrow. Car drivers are also trying to get somewhere so show some respect.
Watch for course signs on roads, trees, grassy areas, etc. We do our best to make things clear but they are not 100% guaranteed, signs can get moved, knocked down etc. Use ride with GPS if possible - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED (links are found on this website)!
Watch for dangerous road and railroad crossings. When in doubt, dismount.
Be prepared to be totally self-reliant. There will be 3 mechanical cars spread over 800- riders on a 145 mile course. Do not expect white glove service.
You are expected to service your bike in advance in preparation for this ride. Do not expect someone to service your bike at the start.
Bring 3 tubes, 3-4 CO2 canisters and a multi tool to do your own small repairs, especially fixing your own flats. This is New England - expect to flat.
Generally we will try to have mechanics at the Rest Stops. If you can limp in with something small we may be able to fix it, but you may need to wait for a bit. As mentioned above, they are out helping lots of others.
Call the Command Center at (802) 909-2877 if you have a mechanical issue that you cannot fix or ride with.
In case of a mechanical issue that you cannot ride with - a member of the non-mechanical road crew may need to bring you up course to a mechanic if there is not one in immediate vicinity. Please understand.
If for whatever reason- mechanical, physical or personal- you decide to drop out of the ride- we will do our best to get you to the sag bus at Rest Stops #3 and #4 who will then take you to the finish (at some point). Call a friend if you want an express ride to the finish.
Dropping out means you will wait, for potentially long periods of time, for the sag bus to take you to the finish. We will get you there by about 6:30 PM, with plenty of time to shower, eat, drink and take the bus home.
Dropping out does not entitle you to an express limo ride to the finish. That is not happening.
If you can tough it out, that is your best option. Or call a friend to come pick you up. We cannot make any exceptions as we have a set schedule for the sag wagon to take all the non finishers to Stratton. Usually about 15 riders so we have to wait for them all.
In case of a medical emergency- please call 911
Have fun! We do our best to make this a supported ride but it is a big course with lost of potential hazards. Come prepared to fix your own bike, but things do happen. When they do, be patient. We will get to you as soon as we can.
Everyone on the road crew has done this ride multiple times, most have done rides that are much harder. We know what it is like and we understand the hazards. Show the same respect that we will show you.
